UN Security Council approved - under the Italian Presidency - the Resolution on 'traffikcing in persons' in conflict and post-conflict situation

On November 21, 2017 the UN Security Council - under the Italian Presidency - approved a Resolution about 'trafficking in persons' in the context of conflict and post-conflict situations.

 

Taking into account the traditional approach of the UNSC to this topic, the document contains some innovative aspects, especially in terms of protecting the human rights of victims of trafficking and other vulenrable people, such as displaced persons, children, asylum seekers.

During the debate within the Council, the UN Special Rapporteur on Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children -  Maria Grazia Giammarinaro - gave a speech recalling the adoption of a human-rights perspective and the need of incorporating anti-trafficking in any international cooperation activities carried out by States.
