On 29 April 2020, the European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders committed to bring forward an EU legislation on mandatory human rights and environmental due diligence for companies as part of the Commission’s 2021 work plan. The announcement came in the midst of the Covid-19 global pandemic crisis which is raising several questions about the future of supply chains, their sustainability and the increasingly urgent need for an economic and social re-thinking of our society.
